Hello Live Oak,
It is a thrill for me to be a part of the Live Oak Elementary Staff. Starting our
thirteenth year as a school and continuing our progression as a community together gives me the satisfaction of knowing that I am part of something special. I have dedicated myself to becoming a lifelong learner and it will be an honor for me to work with the students and staff of Live Oak Elementary to engrain that in our community as well. Before becoming a teacher at Live Oak, I earned my teaching credential at California State University, East Bay. I received my Bachelor¹s Degree in Sociology with a minor in Education at the University of California, Santa Barbara (Go Gauchos!). I also have a Master's in Technology in Education from Lesley University.

In addition to teaching, I enjoy all different types of sports. Currently, I play on a softball team. My wife and I have 2 children and they are the absolute joys in our lives.  We love going on hikes with our dog, Opie, and taking many day trips all over the bay area.  I look forward to getting to know you all better throughout the school year.

Hello, my name is Melissa Caires and I am so honored to be a member of the fourth-grade team at Live Oak Elementary School!  This will be my tenth year teaching fourth grade, and my eighth year teaching at Live Oak.  I feel privileged to be a part of such a supportive community that values education.  I personally completed my K-12 education in the San Ramon Valley Unified School District, and from there earned my undergraduate degree at the University of California, Santa Barbara.  While completing my teaching credential at Brandman University, I was a student-teacher within San Ramon Valley Unified School District and am thrilled to have the opportunity to return to this school district as a fourth-grade teacher.

I am so excited to work with your child this year and guide them in exploring and mastering the fourth-grade curriculum!  I believe the classroom should be a safe and welcoming environment where students feel comfortable to challenge themselves.  I am a lifelong learner and hope to inspire your child's love of learning throughout the school year.

Hello, Live Oak!

I have been fortunate to have opened Live Oak back in 2007, and love the community we have built. I earned my BA in Social Science with a concentration in Child Development, with a minor in psychology, as well as my teaching credential, at San Jose State University. I earned my Master’s Degree in Integrating the Arts in Curriculum through Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 2012. I have been teaching since 1993, and working with children in schools since 1985. My teaching experience has included teaching second – fifth grades, many times as a combination class. Fourth and Fifth grades are my true loves, and I appreciate having the choice of either one in my Live Oak career.

My husband and I live with our mostly adult children, both of whom were educated in the San Ramon School district. My daughter just received her Paramedic certification and looking for jobs. My son is at DVC, and will transfer to San Diego in January to study business. They are probably the most patient children, as I have been dragging them to California missions and museums since they were babies!

In addition to visiting museums and historical sites, I enjoy reading, crafting, crocheting, knitting, cuddling with my 2 cats, and baking when I get a bit of free time. I truly feel teaching is my calling, and I love every day of the year!

Hello, Live Oak Families!

My name is Sarah Wood and I am thrilled to be returning to Live Oak and fourth grade!  I live in San Ramon with my husband, our two young sons, and our golden retriever.  We enjoy camping, hiking, and kayaking in our free time.  This will be my seventh year in fourth grade, and my fourteenth year as an educator.  I have taught kindergarten through sixth grade, as well as special education.  I enjoy the enthusiasm and energy in fourth grade and find the growth that happens with my students very rewarding.  It is very important to me to build a strong foundation with all of my students as well as their families.  I encourage open communication between home and school in order to help our students become the very best they can be!

Have a wonderful year!
